The gold standard for exchange security is maintaining at least 95% to 98% of total client assets in offline, multi-signature cold storage vaults distributed across multiple geographic jurisdictions, with only a small operational float maintained in hot wallets for daily withdrawals.

Additionally, examine account-level security features. Reject any platform that relies exclusively on SMS-based two-factor authentication, which remains notoriously susceptible to SIM-swapping exploits. Legitimate venues mandate hardware security key authentication (FIDO2 / YubiKey) or time-based authenticator apps (TOTP), withdrawal address whitelisting with 24-hour lockouts, and anti-phishing security phrases in all official email correspondence.

Combining institutional multi-signature custody on the exchange backend with hardware-enforced 2FA on user accounts provides robust end-to-end protection against credential theft and unauthorized withdrawals.
